One of the region’s most anticipated outdoor events is back, with the Cunnamulla Fishing and Restocking Club set to host its 2026 Major Fishing Competition on Saturday May 2nd and Sunday May 3rd.

Anglers of all ages are invited to cast a line anywhere along the Warrego River, with a wide range of categories ensuring everyone has a chance to get involved. From juniors through to adults, competitors can enter divisions covering most fish caught, heaviest and longest, along with species categories including Yellowbelly, Murray Cod, Catfish, Carp and even the biggest yabby.

Registrations will be held at John Kerr Park on Friday May 1st between 3pm and 6pm, with entry fees set at $30 for adults and $20 for children and aged pensioners.

The weekend isn’t just about fishing, with a full program of activities planned. A BBQ and bar will run Saturday night, alongside a lolly drop for the kids, yabby races, meat tray raffles and multiple prize draws. In total, 100 prizes will be given away across the two days, with 50 drawn each day.

There are also additional incentives including a fish luring competition, mystery fish prize and a $250 cash prize for the biggest Murray Cod.

Weigh-ins will take place Saturday at 6pm, with the final weigh-in at 12pm Sunday, followed by the main presentation. All participants must be present at John Kerr Park to claim their prizes.

Adding to the excitement this year, the club has also unveiled a new 2026 fishing shirt, available for purchase during the event.
