Brewarrina’s popular Four Mile Reserve has officially reopened to the public following the completion of a major redevelopment project, delivering improved facilities and enhanced access ahead of the busy winter tourism season.

Brewarrina Shire Council announced the reopening on Friday, with the revitalised riverside destination welcoming locals and visitors back just in time for the June long weekend, school holidays and the upcoming Bre Big Fish competition.

The upgrade, completed in less than three months, includes new amenities, shaded barbecue and seating areas, improved river access and a floating jetty, along with upgraded roads, footpaths, lighting and parking facilities. The improvements have been designed to create a more accessible and resilient community space while maintaining the reserve’s role as a popular gathering place.

Brewarrina Shire Council General Manager David Kirby said the project represents an important investment in one of the region’s most valued recreational destinations.

“Four Mile Reserve is one of those fantastic places that truly brings the community and travellers together. A spot where families gather, where people connect with the river, and where visitors get a real sense of our spectacular landscapes and community,” Mr Kirby said.

Mr Kirby thanked the community for its patience during construction, saying the improvements would benefit residents and visitors for many years to come.

“These works have significantly improved the safety, accessibility and resilience of the site, ensuring it can continue to support recreation, cultural connection and community events for many years to come,” he said.

While the reserve has reopened, Council says some minor landscaping and finishing works will continue over the coming weeks. The remaining works are not expected to affect public access, and updates will be provided as the final elements of the project are completed.

The upgraded reserve is expected to play a key role during the upcoming Bre Big Fish event, providing improved facilities and a refreshed riverside experience for competitors, families and visitors during one of the town’s busiest weekends of the year.
