Bourke Shire residents have less than a week remaining to provide feedback on Council’s Draft Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan 2026–2030, with submissions closing Monday, 26 October.

Bourke Shire Council is reminding residents, businesses and community organisations to review the draft plan and have their say on the priorities for improving community safety over the next four years.

The plan outlines how Council intends to work alongside NSW Police, government agencies, community organisations and residents to reduce crime and create a safer, stronger and more connected community.

It identifies six key priorities, including youth safety, protecting homes and businesses, improving public spaces, addressing violence and strengthening community partnerships.

Proposed measures include improved street lighting, targeted CCTV coverage, home security initiatives, expanded youth activities and greater support for vulnerable families.

Council is also seeking stronger government support for policing resources, youth intervention programs, mental health services and responses to domestic and family violence.

The draft plan draws on local crime statistics, which highlight ongoing concerns around residential break-ins, intimidation and violence, while also recognising improvements in some areas of property crime.

Have Your Say Before Monday

Council is encouraging the community to take the opportunity to review the proposals and provide feedback before the consultation period closes.

Submissions received will help inform the final plan before it is presented to Council for adoption.

The Draft Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan 2026–2030 is available through Bourke Shire Council.

For further information or to provide feedback, contact Council on (02) 6830 8000, email bourkeshire@bourke.nsw.gov.au, or visit the Council Chambers at 29 Mitchell Street, Bourke.
