Balonne Shire Council has appointed Tara Edwards as its new Tourism Manager, following the departure of Kim Wildman, who has left the Shire to be closer to family.
Tara steps into the role after playing an instrumental part in the success of the multi-award-winning St George Region tourism team.
Her contributions include the successful You’ll Be Hooked on St George Region campaign, the development of the recently released Destination Management Plan and the new Traveller’s Guide.
With tertiary qualifications in marketing and business administration, Tara has also contributed to the tourism team’s success in securing Queensland and Australian tourism awards for the St George Explore Centre.
Tara said she was delighted to take on the new role and build on the team’s achievements.
“I’ve learnt so much from my time with Kim and I’m really looking forward to continuing the successes we’ve celebrated as a team over recent years.
“It is such rewarding work promoting our Shire to visitors and putting in place initiatives that showcase our region.”
Looking ahead, Tara will help deliver several tourism initiatives designed to attract more visitors to the Balonne Shire.
These include Birds of Balonne, Cotton in the St George Region, Dark Skies Tourism and an Indigenous Trail.
Tara said she was looking forward to playing a role in bringing new visitors to the region through these initiatives.
Council’s appointment provides continuity for the St George Region tourism team as it builds on its recent achievements and develops new opportunities to showcase the Shire.
