Upgrade works are getting underway at the intersection of Warren Road and the Castlereagh Highway, approximately 17.6 kilometres south of Coonamble.
The project is being delivered by Coonamble Shire Council on behalf of Transport for NSW under the Road Maintenance Council Contract and is expected to take around eight weeks to complete.
The works are designed to improve safety and traffic flow for all road users, particularly heavy vehicles using the busy intersection.
What the Upgrade Includes
The intersection will be widened, with new turning lanes added in both directions along the Castlereagh Highway.
Crews will also replace and upgrade culverts beneath the road, rebuild Warren Road on the approach to the intersection, and complete fresh sealing, line marking, signage and guidepost installation.
Changed Traffic Conditions
At least one traffic lane will remain open throughout the work.
Portable traffic lights will operate during construction hours, and motorists should expect minor delays. Traffic travelling in either direction may be stopped for periods of up to 10 minutes.
Drivers are asked to slow down and follow all regulatory speed limits, traffic controls and directions from workers while travelling through the site.
Coonamble Shire Council has thanked motorists for their patience while the improvements are completed.
Once finished, the upgrade is expected to provide a safer intersection for local traffic, freight operators and other highway users for years to come.
