The Walgett Show is gearing up for a big year, with the 86th Annual Walgett Show set to take place on Saturday the 9th and Sunday the 10th of May at the Walgett Racecourse and Showground.

As the flagship event on the Walgett Show Society calendar, the Show continues to bring together the local community while welcoming visitors from across the region for a weekend packed with entertainment, competition and country tradition.

With a history dating back to 1887, the Walgett Show has grown into a much-loved event that celebrates the people, talent and spirit of the Walgett Shire — and 2026 is shaping up to be no exception.

Organisers say this year’s event will feature a strong mix of new attractions, returning favourites and plenty of familiar faces, making it a great day out for all ages.

There’s truly something for everyone — from rides and sideshow alley to market stalls and trade displays, livestock and pavilion exhibits, ring events and showjumping.

Entertainment highlights include the mechanical bull and golf simulator, quick shears, dog events, the return of the animal farm, as well as popular ute and bike shows. Fireworks will again light up the sky on Saturday night, while food, treats and live entertainment will keep the crowds busy across both days.

Special guest Catriona Rowntree is also set to feature as part of this year’s program, adding to an already strong line-up.

While traditionally held over the Mother’s Day weekend, the Show Society is trialling a shift earlier in the season to better align with local conditions and avoid clashes with the busy winter cropping period. Future scheduling will continue to be reviewed as part of that process.

Visitors will also notice ongoing improvements to the Showground facilities, supported by Walgett Shire Council along with funding from the NSW and Australian Governments.

The Walgett Show Committee has thanked its major sponsors for their continued support, saying their contribution plays a vital role in bringing quality attractions to the event each year.

Gates open from 9am both days, with affordable entry ensuring everyone can be part of the weekend.

Whether you’re there for the competition, the entertainment, or simply a catch-up with the community — the Walgett Show remains one of the standout events on the local calendar.
